INVITATION

You are cordially invited to attend the “NATIONAL SEMINAR ON ROLE OF MOLECULAR BIOLOGY IN DRUG DISCOVERY” to be held at K. M. College of Pharmacy, Madurai on 29th - 31st January, 2006 as part of Our College Silver Jubilee Celebration.

This Seminar is intended to provide a key strategic importance to industry; it is used at all stages of the drug discovery and development pipeline, from target identification through to regulatory approval.

This Seminar will explore not only molecular biology, can expedite the development of new therapeutic, diagnostic and prognostic approaches, but also to highlight to work towards solving current challenges in this field. The seminar will be of interest of any one who is teaching, developing or using molecular approaches to therapeutics development as well as key decision makers in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology field.

The interdisciplinary nature of this conference will provide an unique opportunity to explore structure based drug design as an integrated enterprise and faster the exchange of ideas across disciplines.

Special focus shall be on DNA chips lead molecules from nature to protein & DNA chips through molecular Docking.

THE VENUE

            The proceedings of the Seminar will be held at K. M. College of Pharmacy, Madurai – 625107, Tamil Nadu.

            K. M. College of Pharmacy was started by K. M. Mission Medical and Educational Trust Madurai, established in the year of 1981 and offers Diploma, Graduate, Post Graduate and Doctoral programme. For the past 25 years the K. M. College of pharmacy has earned reputation for quality of Pharmacy Education and dedication to society.

            KMCP has setup a separate Research Unit with all required modern infrastructure and facilities capable of meeting the regulatory requirements to conduct modern pharmaceutical Research. As part of the Silver Jubilee Celebration K. M. College of Pharmacy Organising three day “NATIONAL SEMINAR ON ROLE OF MOLECULAR BIOLOGY IN DRUG DISCOVERY” to provide expertise and to update the knowledge to improve the quality of Research.

            Madurai is located on the National Highway No. 45 B and is well connected by Road, Rail and Air. Indian Favourite Tourist Destination Rameswaram, Kanyakumari, Kodaikanal and few of the best known water falls of Tamil Nadu (Coutralam & Papanasam) are only 2 – 4 Hours driving Distance.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM

            The Seminar will include plenary lecturers of renowned personalities from the Academics and Pharma industries to cover major themes of current interest. The list of speakers will be given in the final announcements.

ABSTRACT

1. The abstract of the work proposed to be presented should be typed according to the instructions given below and submitted along with the abstract presenter on or before 15th January 2006 to Dr.K.Gauthaman, Organising Secretary, “NATIONAL SEMINAR ON ROLE OF MOLECULAR BIOLOGY IN DRUG DISCOVERY”,

2. The abstract should be typed only in the prescribed form. The form may be downloaded from the website www.kmcp.ac.in.

3. The abstract should be around 250 words giving a brief introduction to the topic, experimental work done, results and discussion and conclusion or summary of the results. It is unacceptable to state ‘the results will be discussed’.

4. Abstract should also be submitted on Compact Disc prepared in MS Word Version 6.0 / 95 or a higher version and compact disc should contain only one abstract. The text of the abstract should be typed in Times New Roman using font size of 12 with title in bold. Note: Abstract submitted in other than compact disc and compact disc containing more than one abstract is liable for rejection.

5. The abstract should be as informative as possible. An asterisk should indicate the name of the ‘Presenting Author’. Only such author or one of his co-authors named in the abstract and a registrant to the Seminar shall be allowed to present the paper. Each author is allowed to present only one paper in any of the Scientific Sessions, however He/She can be a co-author for more than one paper.

ORAL PRESENTATION

If the abstract is accepted for oral presentation, the authors should clearly indicate which of the following would be needed. Oral presentation would be of 10 minutes including discussion time.

3. Overhead Projector 4. Any other (specify)

POSTER PRESENTATION

1. The area available for poster will be about 1.2 meter wide by 1-meter height.

2. Each chart (table or figure) should be 30 cm X 25 cm size and the material of the chart should be on drawing paper or light card paper.

3. The title of the poster should cover the full width of the poster. The title should be brief, informative and written in bold letters. Names of the authors and addresses should be written below the title in small letters. The name of the presenting author should be underlined.

4. The size of letter should be such that a viewer can read it from a 2-meter distance. The message should be clear and understandable without oral explanation.

5. Figures and diagrams should be simple and self-explanatory. Color pencil may be used. Figures and tables should cover about 50% of the poster area.

6. The text should be brief. The temptation to overload the poster should be resisted. More material may mean less communication.

 

GENERAL

1. Dead line

No paper/s shall be considered if received after 10th January 2006.

2. Acceptance / Rejection

Acknowledgement of receipt of paper and list of acceptance / rejection of papers will be displayed on website. For accepted papers letters will be sent by post, no correspondence to be made for rejected papers.
